Kerry Finch was born in Hobart in 1948 and has spent most of his life in Tasmania.

At 15 he secured a job as a control operator at the commercial radio station 7HT and left there in 1969 as the breakfast announcer to travel to broaden his horizons.  This took him to Savage River, Western Australia, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, where Kerry worked on the motorway between Liverpool and Hull for the Irish company McAlpines.

Kerry returned to Australia and his radio career in 1972, he worked at 2MW Murwillumbah, 2KM in Kempsey and Launceston's 7LA before joining the Australian Broadcasting Commission in 1975.

“I relished the community role and to make the ABC more a part of the northern Tasmanian community.   I was a frequent host, MC and compere of functions around the region”.  ABC radio listeners woke up to his 7NT breakfast program for most of 25 years.

He found it easy to transfer his community radio role to representing the community in Parliament when he was elected to the Legislative Council division of Rosevears in 2002.

Kerry lives in the heartland of his electorate at Deviot on the Tamar River.
