TOURISM - CARAVAN FACILITIES

[2.41 p.m.]
Mr FINCH (Question) - Mr President, during the Budget Estimates the Minister for Tourism, Parks and Heritage told us that he had asked for an overview of facilities for visitors with caravans. He said his department had to get a handle very quickly on what we have, what we are going to have in the future, and what standards should be required for caravan facilities. First, in view of the urgency expressed by the minister, could I ask the Leader what progress has been made so far and, second, when will the minister be in a position to plan and coordinate new infrastructure for those visitors with caravans and motorhomes?

Mr AIRD - I thank the honourable member for his question. The minister has advised me that he requested information from his department regarding the facilities we have for visitors with caravans and motorhomes in Tasmania. This information included the name of each facility, as well as details of its location and type of accommodation provided, its on?site capacity and the owner's name. The minister will be kept advised as to how the industry is progressing and what it requires following the Tourism Tasmania?initiated workshop to be held this month to update the caravan and holiday park strategy. I do not know if the honourable member has had a copy of Caravan and Camping in Tasmania, the official guide 2004?2005, but there is a complimentary copy for the honourable member and any other member who requires it.
