EXTRA CHARGES ON REGISTRATION

Mr FINCH - Thank you very much. It was a small point, I know. When vehicle owners renew their registration they have the option of paying for a full year or for a shorter period. Have you any figures on the popularity of either method of payment and can you tell us if there is an extra administration cost for the shortest periods of registration and whether that is fully recovered?

Mr COX - I can tell you that there is an additional cost on the six-month period, although it is minimal, I think. Mr Fowler, you are the expert on this
.
Mr FOWLER - I cannot recall the exact figures but there is an admin fee charged for periodic registration for cars. Trucks can have periodic registration for three, six, nine and 12 months and cars are for six and 12 months. And we gather in fees for cars, as I mentioned. The take-up rate for periods of registration I think is around about 18 to 20 per cent. I can check those figures for you, though.

Ms NICOLLS - I can add that the administrative fee for each periodic registration is currently $6.05 for non-pensioners and $3.00 for pensioners.

Mr FINCH - Thank you very much. That is all I have on that.
